Why GEO is the new SEO

In 2026, more queries get answered inside an AI chat than on a search results page. Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) is how brands get cited in those answers — by making their content readable, trustworthy and accessible to LLMs.

This tool gives you a clear score, a fix list ordered by impact, and a benchmark to come back to as you improve.

What does my score mean?

Your overall score is a weighted average across the six categories. Here’s how to read each grade band.

A
90–100

Genuinely AI-ready. Stay vigilant as standards evolve.

B
75–89

Strong foundation. A handful of fixes will push you into the top tier.

C
60–74

Functional but missing key signals. Mostly low-effort, high-impact fixes.

D
40–59

Significant gaps. AI engines are likely paraphrasing you without citing.

F
0–39

Effectively invisible to AI. Nowhere to go but up — fixes are concrete.

Who is this for?

Anyone who depends on being found online — and who’s noticed that “found” increasingly happens inside an AI chat.

🛍️

Ecommerce stores

Get your products cited when shoppers ask AI for recommendations. Schema, llms.txt and structured product data are the unlock.

📰

Content publishers

Measure whether AI engines actually cite your articles vs paraphrase without attribution. Authorship + date signals are the lever.

💼

B2B SaaS founders

Surface in “best tool for X” AI answers. Your category page + comparison content + Organization schema decide whether you’re named.

🏢

Marketing agencies

Run audits for clients in 30 seconds. Hand them the paid report as a credibility-building deliverable. White-label coming soon.

📍

Local businesses

Be the answer when someone asks AI for “best dentist in Hyderabad” or “web design agency in Bangalore”. LocalBusiness schema + reviews are the signal.

🎓

Educational sites

Get cited in answers to definitional and how-to queries. FAQPage and HowTo schema are dramatically over-indexed for educational citations.

Free vs Full Report

Both reports run the same 40-check audit. The paid report adds the features that actually move the needle — citation testing, AI perception, and paste-ready fixes.

What’s in the Full Report

Every paid report runs four exclusive layers on top of the free audit.

🎯

AI Citation Test (7 engines)

We send 5 search-style prompts to Claude, GPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Grok, DeepSeek and Mistral, then check who actually cites you — including the source URLs Perplexity browsed. With sentiment.

🪞

AI Perception

We ask all 7 engines “tell me about your brand” and quote what they say verbatim. The uncomfortable mirror that tells you exactly how AI describes you to potential customers.

🛠️

Paste-ready fix snippets

Every issue comes with the exact code to paste — populated with your domain, title and description. Schema, llms.txt, robots.txt, meta tags. No more “you should add Organization schema” without showing how.

⚔️

Competitor benchmark

Same audit run against up to 2 competitors you choose. Side-by-side scores per category — see exactly where you’re ahead and where they have a moat.

📈

3 re-scans within 30 days

Fix the issues we found, then re-run the full audit, citation test and competitor benchmark up to 3 times within 30 days. Your score history is tracked, and your embed badge auto-updates everywhere it’s placed — no edits needed on your site.

🏷️

Auto-updating embed badge

Drop a one-line snippet on your homepage and your AI-Ready score appears as a live badge. Re-scan and the badge updates within minutes — wherever it’s embedded. Built-in proof of progress, plus a backlink loop back to your full report.

Key terms, defined

Plain-English definitions of the terms you’ll see across your report.

GEO (Generative Engine Optimization)
The practice of optimising a website to be cited by AI engines like ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews. Overlaps with SEO but adds AI-specific requirements.
AI-Ready Score
A 0–100 score representing how well your site is set up for AI engines to read, understand and cite. Computed as a weighted average across our six audit categories.
llms.txt
An emerging file standard at /llms.txt — a markdown index telling AI engines what your site is about and where to find canonical content. Sites with a well-structured llms.txt get cited disproportionately.
AI Overviews
Google’s AI-generated answers that appear above the classic 10 blue links. Currently rolling out globally; powered by Gemini.
JSON-LD
JavaScript Object Notation for Linked Data — the schema format AI engines and search engines parse to understand structured facts about your page (organisation, article, product, FAQ, etc.).
Hard citation
When an AI engine returns your URL in its structured citations list (Perplexity Sonar does this most reliably). Drives direct click-through traffic.
Soft mention
When an AI engine names your brand in its answer text without linking to you. Builds brand recognition but doesn’t drive direct traffic.
AI Bot Access
Whether the major AI crawlers (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended, etc.) are allowed to fetch your site, controlled via robots.txt rules.

Frequently asked questions

Direct answers to what people actually ask before they run their first scan.

What is Generative Engine Optimization (GEO)?

GEO is the practice of optimising a website so AI engines like ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews can read, understand and cite it. It overlaps with SEO but adds new requirements — AI bot access, structured data depth, content answerability, and emerging standards like llms.txt.

How is GEO different from SEO?

Traditional SEO optimises for search-engine result pages (the 10 blue links). GEO optimises for AI-generated answers — the responses you see in ChatGPT, Perplexity or at the top of Google. Same web, very different ranking signals: AI engines weight schema, sectioned content and authorship far more heavily than classic SEO did.

Which AI engines does the tool test against?

Seven engines via OpenRouter — Claude (Anthropic), GPT (OpenAI), Perplexity Sonar, Gemini (Google), Grok (xAI), DeepSeek and Mistral. Together they cover the bots used by ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, X / Grok search and most major APAC AI surfaces.

How long does the free scan take?

About 25–30 seconds. We fetch your homepage, robots.txt and sitemap; parse your structured data; check Core Web Vitals via Google PageSpeed Insights; and run all 40+ checks across six categories. The result page is a permanent shareable URL.

Is the scan really free? What's the catch?

The scan is genuinely free, no signup required, no credit card. The optional paid report (₹499 / $9 founding price) adds the live AI Citation Test, AI Perception probe, side-by-side competitor benchmark, paste-ready code snippets, and a branded PDF. Both reports use the same audit engine — paid just adds the layers that need an LLM in the loop.

What's actually in the paid report?

Four extra layers on top of the free audit: (1) live AI Citation Test against 7 engines with sentiment analysis and Perplexity source URLs; (2) AI Perception probe — what each engine says verbatim when asked about your brand; (3) paste-ready fix snippets pre-populated with your domain and metadata; (4) competitor benchmark for up to 2 competitor URLs.

How accurate is the AI Citation Test?

Citation results are a snapshot, not a guarantee. AI engines are non-deterministic — the same prompt asked tomorrow may produce a different answer. Hard citations from Perplexity (where the engine returns explicit source URLs) are highly reliable. Soft mentions in Claude / GPT / others are real signals but should be treated as a directional read, not absolute truth.

Will fixing the issues actually improve my AI rankings?

Yes — the audit checks signals AI engines explicitly use to decide what to cite: bot access in robots.txt, JSON-LD structured data, content answerability, E-E-A-T markers, mobile and Core Web Vitals, and emerging files like llms.txt. Fixing high-severity issues typically moves the needle within 2–6 weeks as engines re-crawl. Citation results are slower (model retraining cycles).

How many free re-scans do I get with the paid report?

Three free re-scans within 30 days of purchase. Each re-scan re-runs everything — base audit, AI Citation Test across all 7 engines, AI Perception probe, and your competitor benchmark. Your embed badge auto-updates with the new score everywhere it's placed, with no edits needed on your site. After 3 re-scans or 30 days, get a fresh report to keep tracking.

How often should I re-scan?

Re-scan after fixing issues from your report — that's what proves the fix worked. For most sites, one re-scan a week through the 30-day window catches the meaningful improvements. The score updates immediately, and any badge you've embedded on your site shows the new number within minutes.

Can I get help implementing the fixes?

Yes. Aapta Solutions has been building on the web since 2007 — WordPress, cloud hosting, design, SEO and now GEO. Every paid report ends with a CTA to get a quote. We can implement schema, llms.txt, robots.txt, content rewrites, and the entire fix list end-to-end.

What is llms.txt and why does it matter?

llms.txt is an emerging standard — a markdown file at your site root telling AI engines what your site is about and where to find clean canonical content. Adoption is small but growing fast. Sites with a well-structured llms.txt get cited disproportionately because they're easier for LLMs to ingest.

What's the difference between a hard citation and a soft mention?

A hard citation is when an AI engine explicitly returns your URL in its structured citations list (Perplexity does this most reliably). A soft mention is when the engine names your brand in its answer text without linking to you. Both matter, but hard citations drive direct traffic while soft mentions build brand recognition.
